about our Housegroups
House groups at St Mary’s form a vital part of our church life. The success of our Alpha groups led participants to want to maintain the friendships they had made and to continue to explore their Christian faith so the first groups were formed. With the growth of our church it was becoming more difficult for Christine and our Pastoral Team to keep in close contact with our members. The house groups were identified as already providing pastoral care for their members as well as developing our spiritual life. Membership of house groups was opened to our whole church with the result that we now have groups meeting Monday to Thursday evenings, Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. We continue to pray that more people will be added to our numbers.
House groups provide a safe and welcoming way of forming friendships and finding out more about the Christian faith and how you can grow in that faith. We do have fun as well, as groups have social events and meals together at various times throughout the year.
House groups generally meet once a fortnight with breaks during August, December, Lent and Easter leaving 15 to 20 full sessions a year not including any social events which may occur. House groups also lead monthly prayer breakfasts and take an active role in the main Sunday service also on a monthly basis.
